Teachers and admins
Use Skoolu from other AI tools
Your school admin or coordinator turns on API and MCP access in School setup → Tools. It starts off. When it is on, staff can open API access in the menu, create a named token that expires in 30 or 90 days, and copy it. The token appears only once. Keep it private. You can revoke it at any time; school admins can revoke any school token. Turning the school switch off stops all tokens immediately.
Your API token can use enabled teacher tools and read your own output history. It cannot open student rooms, rosters, or student data. Generated drafts still need teacher review before sharing.
REST example
Replace <host>, <token> and <class-id> with your own values. /api/v1/tools includes your available class and subject pairs in contexts; use a classId and subject from there. Your inputs also need the tool fields shown by that endpoint.
curl -H 'Authorization: Bearer <token>' 'https://<host>/api/v1/tools'
curl -X POST 'https://<host>/api/v1/generate' -H 'Authorization: Bearer <token>' -H 'Content-Type: application/json' -d '{"toolId":"lesson-plan","inputs":{"classId":"<class-id>","subject":"Science","topic":"Light","periods":1}}'
curl -H 'Authorization: Bearer <token>' 'https://<host>/api/v1/history'
The generation response includes id, text and a relative url for your saved output. It uses the same school tool switches, limits, safety checks and history as the teacher workspace.
Remote MCP server
The MCP URL is https://<host>/api/mcp. It offers list_teacher_tools, run_teacher_tool, list_history and get_output. list_teacher_tools includes your available class and subject pairs. When calling run_teacher_tool, use the same toolId and inputs as the REST example.
Claude Code: Add a remote HTTP server with a Bearer header, then check it with claude mcp list:
claude mcp add --transport http skoolu 'https://<host>/api/mcp' --header 'Authorization: Bearer <token>'
claude mcp list
See Claude Code's remote MCP setup.
Codex CLI or IDE: Put your token in a private environment variable. Add this to your personal ~/.codex/config.toml and restart Codex:
[mcp_servers.skoolu]
url = "https://<host>/api/mcp"
bearer_token_env_var = "TEACHER_AI_TOKEN"
Set TEACHER_AI_TOKEN to the token in Codex's environment. See the Codex MCP configuration reference.
ChatGPT: Its authenticated MCP app setup currently requires OAuth 2.1 and does not accept a pasted personal API token as an MCP credential. This Skoolu server does not yet provide that OAuth flow, so the direct ChatGPT MCP connection is not available. A school admin will need to arrange an OAuth integration before adding this server as a ChatGPT app. See OpenAI's MCP authentication guide.
For a direct check:
curl -X POST 'https://<host>/api/mcp' -H 'Authorization: Bearer <token>' -H 'Content-Type: application/json' -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/list"}'
